  1.  Desktop or laptop computer (I prefer an Apple, and currently use a Macbook Pro with 4 gigs of RAM)

  2.  GOOD studio monitors (these are especially important if doing any mixing or mastering)

  3.  GOOD pair of headphones (I use the Dre headphones, but you can find cheaper ones that still sound great)

  4.  MBox (I use an MBox2 Mini and definitely recommend it for its compact size and effectiveness)

  5.  Studio mic (MXL or condensor mic) and mic stand (can often find Bundle packages to include both)

  6.  Pop filter (To control your sound when you say words that start with P or B)

  7.  Recording program (I use and recommend Pro-Tools, although you don't NEED to get the newest version)

Way 1 - Cheaper (under $999):

1.  Find an Apple Macbook Pro, or Desktop for $550,

on Ebay or Craigslist

2.  Get GOOD studio monitors on these sites for $150

3.  Good headphones found here for around $50

4.  I found my MBox 2 mini on Craigslist for $100 and it included Pro Tools 8 with it as well.

5.  I have used the same MXL mic for the past 7 years, and I bought it for $100, mic stand=$30, or get a bundle package

6.  Pop Filters are only $15 brand new

7.  Recording programs on Craigslist free, with MBox

Way 2 - Better Quality (under $2,299):

1.  Brand new Apple Macbook Pros for $1,200

2.  Good Studio Monitors for $300 for the pair

3.  Dre Headphones run from $300 to $400

4.  Brand new MBox mini and Pro-Tools for $300

5.  I still recommend an MXL mic for around $100, just because that's all I've ever used, and its been great.

6.  Pop filters are still $15

7.  Pro-tools comes with the MBox for free
